Temporarily route an inbound verification call to cloudnumbering's SIP test endpoint when a third-party service only needs to confirm that your number can receive a call.
Before you start
You need an in-service number that supports voice. Record its current primary and secondary voice endpoints before changing them.
Warning: Do not use the test endpoint if you need to hear a spoken verification code. Route the number to a voice endpoint that you can answer instead.
Find or create the test endpoint
- Go to Number Management > Endpoints.
- Check for a voice endpoint whose URI is
sip:%e164@siptest.cloudnumbering.com.- If an endpoint exists and Secondary is off, note its Name and continue to Route the verification call.
- If no eligible endpoint exists, select Create Endpoint.
- Enter a unique Endpoint Name, such as
Temporary voice verification. - Set Endpoint Type to Voice.
- Leave Use as Failover/Secondary Endpoint? and Use as Default Endpoint? off.
- In Hostname, enter
%e164@siptest.cloudnumbering.comafter thesip:prefix.- The complete SIP URI is
sip:%e164@siptest.cloudnumbering.com.
- The complete SIP URI is
- Select Create Endpoint.
Route the verification call
Warning: While the test endpoint is assigned, all inbound calls to the number go to the automated test service. Clearing the secondary endpoint also disables normal failover until you restore the original routing.
- Go to Number Management > Number Inventory.
- Select the number that the third-party service will call.
- Choose the test endpoint under Primary Voice Endpoint.
- Clear Secondary Voice Endpoint so a failed call cannot use another destination.
- Select Save.
- Start the third-party voice verification.
- After the attempt finishes, reopen the number in Number Inventory.
- Restore the previous Primary Voice Endpoint and Secondary Voice Endpoint.
- Re-select both endpoints explicitly. Turning Enabled off and back on does not restore the previous routing — it selects an arbitrary endpoint, which can silently leave the number routed to the wrong destination.
- If the number had no voice endpoint, turn off Enabled.
- Select Save.
What happens next
cloudnumbering replaces %e164 with the called number in full E.164 format and routes the verification call to the test endpoint. The endpoint answers automatically.
This checks routing to the cloudnumbering test service. It does not test your PBX, firewall, network address translation, codecs, or media configuration, and it does not guarantee that the third-party service will accept the number.
If you created a non-default endpoint for this task and it is no longer assigned to any number, you can keep it for later verification attempts. An unassigned endpoint does not route calls.
Troubleshooting
The service asks me to enter a spoken code
Do not use the SIP test endpoint. Assign a voice endpoint that you can answer, then listen to the code and enter it in the third-party service.
The verification call does not reach the test endpoint
Confirm that the number is in service, Primary Voice Endpoint shows the test endpoint, and Enabled is on. Then follow Troubleshooting voice calls.
The call reaches the test endpoint, but verification fails
Check the third-party service's number format, eligibility rules, and retry limits. Reaching the test endpoint does not guarantee that the service will accept a cloudnumbering number.
